Artist's Story
I became creative and SO CAN YOU!
I grew up thinking I was not creative or imaginative AT ALL I didn't even play with dolls as a child! But in 1998, I found myself with friends who were creative and wanted me to try making handmade cards. When I protested that I was not creative, they immediately scolded me, saying "You can't say that! Everyone is creative!"
And they were right!
The first attempts were frustrating, even embarrassing! But then something happened-once I got over the fear of creating something 'ugly', I felt immense satisfaction in the creation process & started developing my own style. When creating, I started noticing that I experienced FLOW, a sense of timelessness. In that space, there was no stress from my corporate job or life's worries. I felt connected to something deeper within myself. I realized that this was something I wanted to share with everyone, especially those who said they weren't creative!
In 2001, one of those friends asked me to take a stained glass class with her. In 2004, I started going to Glass conventions and took more advanced classes. I branched out to lampworking glass beads, fusing glass and making jewelry. I had found my artistic Love Glass!
Glass art filled me with wonder and awe. It was so intriguing to see a piece of changed with the intensity and direction of the light source as well as the thickness of the glass. I enjoyed the challenge of design that had to take into account the complex technical properties of glass while taking advantage of the beauty of the glass itself.
I loved glass so much that in 2004, I started to work weekends at the local glass shop while working my full-time corporate job. In 2006, I taught beginning lampworking classes. In 2008, I left
corporate and decided to make a living doing what I love - glass!
